RIBA Learning is pleased to invite you to an architectural tour of London Zoo and delve into the history of a selection of significant structures created for animals. We'll round up the tour with a cup of tea and a chance to look at some of the images from the RIBA Collections related to the listed buildings we have seen.
We will be joined by Catherine Gregg, Managing Editor of the forthcoming Palladio Catalogue and the new edition of Banister Fletcher's Global History of Architecture.
Catherine will introduce us to her research ‘Beastly Encounters with Moderns’ looking at the social commentary, political and scientific background of the animal architecture at London Zoo and how the architects used their findings in future projects for humans.
This event is for anyone aged 55 or over that has an interest in discovering more about architecture, with a chance for discussion and refreshments in the London Zoo Community Centre after the tour.
Please bring a sketchbook if you would like to draw.
As this tour has limited numbers please ensure you can attend if you book a ticket. We will meet at the zoo main entrance on the day.
