Freestyle

This exhibition took you on a journey through time from the Renaissance to postmodernism, through virtual reality.

RIBA reopened its Architecture Gallery

From 2 July to 4 September 2021, you could visit 'Freestyle - Architectural Adventures in Mass Media', a RIBA commission with Space Popular, on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm.

Freestyle took visitors on a journey through time from Renaissance to postmodernism. Drawing on our world-class collections, Space Popular used virtual reality to examine styles of the past and to consider the technology's impact on contemporary spaces and buildings. Historic artefacts were displayed alongside newly commissioned content, inviting you to enter a beguiling virtual universe to experience how popular cultures and technologies impact architecture and its style evolution.

We launched our Freestyle Social VR Space during this exhibition, bringing you our critically acclaimed exhibition into your own living room. Created by the commissioned designers, Space Popular, you could've met with your friends in the virtual exhibition, explore the collection and join events as your favourite avatar. This is now no longer available due to the ending of Mozilla Hubs services.
