2030 Climate Challenge

2030 Climate Challenge

We're calling on RIBA Chartered Practices to help address the global climate crisis.

RIBA has developed the 2030 Climate Challenge to help architects design within a climate conscious trajectory. The 2030 Climate Challenge provides a stepped approach towards reaching net zero.

The 2030 Climate Challenge sets a series of targets for practices to adopt to reduce operational energy, embodied carbon and potable water.

If all RIBA Chartered Practices meet the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge targets, they will play their part in addressing this global crisis.

Watch Alex Tait, Head of Technical Practice at RIBA, give a brief introduction to the 2030 Climate Challenge and download the slides here.

2030 Climate Challenge targets

Our 2030 Climate Challenge targets consider the latest recommendations from the Green Construction board and have been developed in consultation with industry experts and UK professional bodies from across the built environment industries. The targets are around:

  • Operational energy
  • Embodied carbon
  • Potable water use
  • Health and wellbeing

Once you've signed up, report on how your practice is performing against these targets by downloading the data collection spreadsheet (XLSX), completing it, and emailing it to the RIBA Practice team.
