Open Call for Vice-President Research 2018-2019
Deadline - 20 November 2017
The RIBA Council has approved the creation of the new role of Vice President Research, as a “further officer or Vice President” of the RIBA, pursuant to Byelaw 7.2(c).
Responsibilities of the Vice-President Research
Advancing Architecture - our strategy for 2016 to 2020 - sets out our current priorities. These include:
'Build a body of knowledge and facilitate collaboration, research and innovation in Practice.'
The RIBA Council has decided that if we are to deliver on this headline priority, and regain a compact with society as a basis for the special trust, responsibility and status accorded to professionals, we must organise ourselves in a more meaningful and effective way than at present in the delivery of our research activity and dissemination of professional knowledge.
Initially, the Vice-President Research will not have a main committee to chair, and there will not be significant resources dedicated specifically to support new research activities. The brief for the Vice-President will be to provide member leadership and expertise to shape the RIBA’s future research and knowledge strategy.
Liaison and support
The Vice-President Research will liaise with the RIBA President and the Vice-Presidents for Practice and Education to provide guidance and direction to the formulation of the RIBA’s strategic and policy objectives in relation to research and knowledge.
It is also expected that the Vice-President will have an input to the RIBA Governance Review.
Time commitment
- Make reports to the RIBA Board (which meets six times a year)
- Attend four one-day meetings of RIBA Council per annum,
