RIBA Council elections 2023
Here you will find information about current, upcoming, and past elections for the RIBA President and the RIBA Council. Elections within RIBA are conducted under our Royal Charter, Byelaws and Regulations.
During 2023 we will hold the following elections:
- Vice-President Membership: any RIBA Chartered Member is eligible to stand, and the successful candidates will serve a two year term from 1 September 2023
- Two RIBA Council Member seats: any RIBA Chartered Member is eligible to stand for one of the two seats, and successful candidates will serve a three year term from 1 September 2023
- Twelve RIBA Regional Council Member seats: any RIBA Chartered Member who is on the electoral register for one of the regions listed below is eligible to stand for one of the seat/s available in that region. The term of office will be three years from 1 September 2023
- RIBA London – six seats
- RIBA South East – two seats
- RIBA South West – one seat
- RIBA Wessex – one seat
- RIBA West Midlands – one seat
- RIBA Scotland South – one seat
- Four RIBA International Regional Council Member seats: any RIBA Chartered Member who is on the electoral register for one of the international regions listed below is eligible to stand for one of the seats available in that region. The term of office will be three years from 1 September 2023
- Europe (excluding the UK) – one seat
- The Americas – one seat
- Asia and Australasia – one seat
- The Middle East and Africa – one seat
We will also have the following by-elections:
- RIBA East Midlands Regional Council Member seat: any RIBA Chartered Member who is on the electoral register in the RIBA East Midlands region is eligible to stand for the seat. The term of office will be one year from 1 September 2023
- Two Associate Member seats: any Associate Member of the RIBA (or eligible to be an Associate Member of the RIBA) may stand for the Associate Member seat. The term of office will be two years from 1 September 2023

To be eligible to participate in this year’s annual RIBA election, you must be a RIBA Member on the qualifying date. If you are not a RIBA Member and are eligible for RIBA Membership, you must have submitted your application online no later than 23.59pm (GMT) on 14 April 2023.
RIBA has a commitment to sustainability and using resources effectively and efficiently. In line with this, the elections process will be conducted online. Members who wish to participate in any election must have a registered email address with RIBA. If any member has recently changed their contact details, please update their information as soon as possible. This can be done by accessing the member portal.
