The Awards Group ensure consistently high standards are applied across the UK and the rest of the world (in the case of the RIBA International Awards). Their role is to establish policy, develop and apply judging criteria, and review award submissions to select winners in accordance with RIBA Awards criteria.
The Awards Group has direct responsibility for judging the RIBA Awards in the UK and International:
- UK Awards – the process begins following the conclusion of the RIBA Awards, which the Awards Group moderates. They assess projects eligible for National Awards and decide the winners, and select the shortlist of the Stirling Prize, in collaboration with at least one member of the Stirling Prize jury.
- International Awards – the process begins by reviewing all entries and selecting projects for site visits by Local Ambassadors. With their assistance, the Awards Group determines the winners of the International Awards for Excellence, the International Emerging Architect winner, and the shortlist for the International Prize.
