EPR’s design process embraces an ambitious sustainability agenda. As well as supporting retrofit principles, the practice is actively delivering many low and net-zero carbon projects - including their own London studio, All Saints - and they have already surpassed their 2030 carbon target.

Committed to social value, they empower their staff to engage in activities beyond the practice for the good of the wider community, and are committed to creating social value in the localities around their three studios. This includes extensive outreach activities with local schools to help diversify access to the architectural profession.

The Ned, City of London: Blending heritage with contemporary design, EPR transformed the former Midland Bank into a luxury hotel and members’ club, restoring it’s 1920s grandeur with modern flair.

Tell us about your practice? What do you stand for?

EPR stands for site-specific design, a crafted design language, best-in-class technical delivery and building long-lasting client relationships. We strive to create architecture that seamlessly integrates with its environment, while embodying innovation, elegance and functionality.

What differentiates you from other architects? / How do you describe your approach to the design?

Our approach begins with a deep understanding of the client’s brief and the unique context of the site. From there, we develop a design language that is specific to each project, ensuring it reflects both the place and the purpose. We often collaborate with artists, interior designers and other specialists to enrich our work.

With a legacy dating back to the 1940s, we bring unparalleled experience to every project whilst continuing to stay at the forefront of innovation. As the first major architectural practice to operate a net zero in use studio, we’re committed to setting new benchmarks in sustainable design while embracing the challenges of complex and ambitious projects.

What projects are you currently working on?

We are actively working on over 100 live projects. Some of the most notable are the reinvigoration and extension of The Ritz on Picadilly, 220 Blackfriars Road, a landmark mixed-use development in partnership with Southwark Charities and St John’s Wood Square, a super-prime residential development set within the former site of the St John’s Wood Barracks in Westminster.

Why do clients come to you? What kind of clients do you work with?

At EPR, we don’t have a ‘typical’ client. Our strength lies in our ability to build strong, lasting relationships, each tailored to the unique needs of our clients. Our commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes and aligning with their vision has led to collaborations that span decades.

Our diverse client base ranges from individual developers to large institutions, as well as charities and special interest groups.

What have been the highlights for you in the past year?

The opening of the Old War Office was an incredible highlight for us. Transforming this iconic piece of British history into a world-class hotel and a collection of exceptional residences marked the culmination of a long and rewarding design journey. Seeing the public enjoy the building for the first time was truly special.

What is your special focus for MIPIM 2025?

Our focus is on championing our approach to sustainable design and forging collaborations with clients who share our values. We work from a very low energy studio, have already hit our 2030 carbon reduction targets and we have a growing portfolio of exciting net zero carbon projects.

Is there anything exciting on the horizon?

We are honoured to be working on The Ritz, one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. This project is a unique opportunity to preserve and redefine a global architectural treasure, and seeing the project progress is incredibly exciting.

Additionally, our School Outreach Programme, which aims to improve access to careers within architecture for young people who are currently underrepresented in the profession, is going from strength to strength. It’s fantastic to see how this initiative continues to empower the next generation of diverse talent to shape the future of architecture.

Colloco, Manchester: Targeting net zero carbon, BREEAM Excellent and NABERS 5.5-star credentials, Colloco will comprise high-quality, flexible workspace nestled on the border of Manchester’s Spinningfields and St John’s districts.
