The exhibition shows how a school of ideas developed in Liverpool School of architecture was disseminated by an important group of architects and thinkers through architectural practice and teaching to the current generation of award-winning architects, placing emphasis on the highly respected architect, critic and educator Robert (Bob) Maxwell, whose critical writing brings architecture into the realm of culture in an unusual way and has received a citation from the American Institute of Architects for using language accessible to ordinary people.
The RIBA is proud to host this exhibition, featuring ironic portrait busts by artist Celia Scott of some of the key figures in late twentieth century architecture, including Scott's James Stirling bust from the RIBA collection.
The exhibition is supported by the Irish Architectural Archive and the University of Liverpool, accompanied by the publication of Ideas, Faces and Places by Canalside Press.
