French Government Tourist Office

Drawings for Goldfinger's remodelled French Government Tourist and Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer offices. c.1967, RIBA Collections

Between 1967 and 1970, Ernö Goldfinger worked on the remodelling of the structure, ground-floor facade and interior of the offices of the French Government Tourist Office (FGTO) and the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer (SNCF) in Paris.

The executive architect was Pierre Forestier, who had previously worked with Goldfinger at the Atelier Perret; while presentation drawings were done by Juliet Leong. The offices were notable for the first use of water-filled steel columns in France, which took up one fifth of the space occupied by the masonry piers they replaced.
