South Bank development plan

Adams Holden & Pearson, design for the development of the South Bank, London. 1947, RIBA Collections

This drawing shows Adams Holden & Pearson's proposal for the development of the South Bank, drawn up for the London County Council in 1947. It included plans for a concert hall designed by LCC architect Edwin Williams.

However, the scheme was quickly usurped by plans to develop the site for the 1951 Festival of Britain, which instead saw the construction of arts buildings and exhibits led by the Festival Office's Exhibition Presentation Panel.
