Each year the RIBA Part 1 and Part 2 Bursaries support students of architecture throughout two years of study: either their second and third years of Part 1, or their two years of Part 2.
The RIBA Part 1 Bursaries were launched earlier this year after there was a strong call for support from talented Part 1 students who needed financial assistance in order to complete this stage of study.
The RIBA Part 2 Bursaries were instigated a few years earlier, in 2014, to address student dropout rates by encouraging Part 1 graduates to continue onto Part 2 courses and progress towards qualification.
This year’s recipients of the RIBA Part 1 Bursaries are:
- Carmen Ligia Poara – The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL (Walter Parker Bursary)
- Maciej Adaszewski – The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL (Education Fund Bursary)
- Ellen Day – University of Portsmouth (Walter Parker Bursary)
- Henri Kopra – University of Nottingham (Walter Parker Bursary)
Recipients of the Part 2 Bursaries are:
- Naomi Howell-Sivosh - The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL (Ayyub Malik Bursary)
- Abigail Bird - University of the Arts, London (Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design) (Ayyub Malik Bursary)

Commenting on the applications submitted and the work of the winners, RIBA President Ben Derbyshire said:
“The Part 1 and Part 2 Bursaries are a superb initiative, which enable us to support students at two crucial stages of their education. The study of architecture is expensive; these bursaries will allow these talented and committed individuals to flourish without the burden of financial stress, and ensure they can focus on their studies.”
The schemes have been made possible by generous donations to the RIBA from the Rosenberg Memorial Fund, the Ayyub Malik Trust and the Walter Parker Trust; as well as monies raised through the RIBA Education Fund.
