The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has today announced the recipients of the 2023 RIBA Wren Insurance Association Scholarships, worth a total of £37,500.
The scholarships support outstanding Part 2 students of architecture who have the potential to make a significant contribution to the future of the profession.
The five recipients are:
- Henry Aldridge - University of Cambridge (completed Part 1)
- Maciej Aleksander Adaszewski – The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (completed Part 1)
- Jeanette Aves – Oxford Brookes University (completed Part 1)
- Rowdah Charbak – Manchester School of Architecture (completed Part 1)
- Alfie Hollington – University of Strathclyde (completed Part 1)
- Each student will receive £7,500 and the opportunity to be mentored from an architect member of the Wren Insurance Association.
Chairman of The Wren Insurance Association Chris Bennie said:
“It is our privilege to be able to provide the Wren scholarships to help nurture the talent that is the future of our profession, both in the awards themselves and through the mentoring programme offered by our member firms.
This year the judging panel were once again left in awe of the ability and the passion of the applicants and took delight in the diversity of their backgrounds and chosen areas of study. We congratulate all the applicants on the quality of their work and wish them continuing success this year.”
RIBA President Muyiwa Oki said:
“Our scholarships provide fundamental support in helping architecture students achieve their aspirations. Thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Wren Insurance Association, five talented and innovative students have been allowed to develop their careers.

- The 2023 judging panel consisted of: Albena Atanassova (Project Director at Scott Brownrigg), Victoria Simpson (Partner at DLG Architects), and Nicholas Szczepaniak (Director at Szczepaniak Teh) representing the RIBA; and Jose Llaca Bastardo (Senior Architect at Marks Barfield Architects), Kossy Nnachetta (Partner at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios), Ian Rudolph (Practice Director at Marks Barfield Architects), and Marigold Webster (Partner at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios), representing the Wren Insurance Association.
- The judging panel selected the successful applicants based on their talent, as demonstrated by their academic and non-academic achievements to date. Consideration was also given to the applicants’ potential contribution to architecture (as demonstrated by their academic intentions, relevant experience, and aspirations for their future careers), to their personal circumstances and journey to architecture, and how they believed that the scholarship would benefit their academic and professional ambitions.
