The UK government has today announced that the suite of sanctions targeting vulnerable sectors of the Russian economy, including the export ban of architectural services, will come into effect tomorrow, Friday 16 December 2022.
RIBA President, Simon Allford, said:
“In September the UK government announced new sanctions aimed at restricting Russia's access to professional business services, including architecture. Tomorrow, Friday 16 December 2022 these will come into effect.
All RIBA Members and Chartered Practices, who have not chosen to do so already, must now adhere to the new restrictions. This is a legal obligation and failure to comply will result in serious consequences, including being in breach of RIBA Codes. Members are encouraged to seek legal advice if necessary.
We will continue to work with the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to assess how the sanctions will impact the sector. Our Ukraine crisis hub will be updated with the latest information and guidance.”
