RIBA President, Alan Jones, said:
“I am sad to hear about the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and send sincere condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and her family on behalf of the RIBA.
Prince Phillip demonstrated extraordinary devotion to British industry and public service throughout his life. He was a champion of the environment – long before it was mainstream – and of design quality. He was a nurturer of talent and his Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme has had a profound impact on millions of young people.
I am pleased to hear that the RIBA was able to recognise his achievements in our field during his lifetime – presenting him with an RIBA Honorary Fellowship in 1951 for services to design.
He was a remarkable figure and I commend him for his long lifetime of duty.”
