To celebrate International Women's Day 2019 we're shining a light on women who have made a significant contribution to the architecture, design and the built environment.
Earlier this year six incredible women were awarded 2019 RIBA International and Honorary Fellowships. Keep an eye on our social media channels on Friday 8 March as we share their achievements and contributions to our profession.
Frida Escobedo - Frida founded her architecture and design studio based in Mexico City in 2006. In 2018 she designed the Serpentine Pavilion, and is the youngest architect yet to do so.
Neri Oxman - Neri is an architect and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She's based at the Media Lab, where she is the founding director of The Mediated Matter Group, an experimental design practice.
Beatrice Fraenkel - Beatrice is an active Merseyside politician and has held the position of Chair of the Mersey Care NHS Trust since 2008. Beatrice is a qualified industrial design engineer and ergonomist with an established career in regeneration across the region. In 2015 she was appointed a Built Environment Expert by the Design Council/CABE and she's also past-Chair of the Architects Registration Board.
Sarah Gaventa - Sarah is a public space expert and director of the Illuminated River Foundation, a long-term art commission incorporating 15 bridges from Albert to Tower Bridge.
Zina Jardaneh - Zina is Chair of the Palestinian Museum in Birzeit where she has been instrumental in its development as an institution dedicated to supporting an open and dynamic Palestinian culture. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors of Taawon-The Welfare Association, a Palestinian NGO.
Yana Peel - Yana is Chief Executive of the Serpentine Galleries, championing excellence and experimentation across art, architecture and design.
Lynne Walker - Dr. Lynne Walker is an architectural historian and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. Writing extensively on architecture, gender and space, she has framed the challenges and achievements of women architects in Britain, and her work is considered foundational to the study of UK women in architecture.

In a discussion chaired by Grace Choi, practitioners from a variety of scales of practice will be exploring, challenging and addressing issues of gender diversity.
