New Practice Action series launches

Understand your practice’s climate impact and develop a roadmap for change. Practice Action is a series of masterclasses and conversations developed by Architects Declare and ACAN, with support from the RIBA.

26 April 2022

Does your practice need help in kickstarting its sustainability ambitions? Are you unsure where to start in tackling the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge targets?

Practice Action is a series of masterclasses and conversations developed by Architects Declare and ACAN, with support from the RIBA. It is aimed at providing architecture professionals with the practical skills and confidence to pursue more sustainable and regenerative practice models.

The series is designed to assist practitioners who wish to actively improve their practice’s sustainability trajectory and are in a position to influence change. Leading industry experts will help you get up to speed in an engaging interactive format.

The sessions will help improve participants’ climate literacy and ability to assess the impact of their projects. They will support practices in developing their own roadmap for change and offer tips on engaging clients in the journey.

The masterclasses will be held online each month between May and September 2022 from 2pm to 3.30pm and will address the following:

  • Friday 6 May: Climate literacy
  • Friday 10 June: Understanding impact
  • Friday 8 July: Working with the client brief
  • Friday 5 August: Collaboration and learning within practice
  • Friday 16 September: Closing the loop

The Practice Action series will show participants how to steer their practices towards more effective and ambitious sustainability goals.

Each masterclass may be booked individually from the Eventbrite page, although practices will gain the most transformative learning experience by attending all five. This will be worth approximately 15 hours of CPD.

The masterclass series launched in April with an introductory event, Designing your own Practice Roadmap, a recording of which will be made available soon.

ACAN is hosting a series of five conversations to complement the masterclasses. These will cover:

  • Thursday 19 May: How to ensure all voices in practices are heard
  • Thursday 23 June: How to get started, resourcing and partnering
  • Thursday 21 July: Persuading the client to bring reused and natural materials into projects
  • Thursday 25 August: Changes in your office and collaboration
  • Thursday 29 September: Troubleshooting post-occupancy analysis and building performance analysis

Registration is now open for ACAN's conversations launch with a free event on 28 April, Climate Literacy: Communicating the Climate Crisis.
