RIBAJ Future Architects Writing Competition Winner Sam Winton explores 'Parasitic Housing' and multi-generational living

Introducing Sam Winton, the winner of the RIBAJ Future Architects Writing Competition

Sam currently works at Framework Architects in Lincoln. He completed his Part 1 at the University of Lincoln and continued his Part 2 there, whilst working part-time, and is currently preparing for Part 3.

Sam has been writing about architecture throughout his education and was looking for a writing-specific competition when he spotted the opportunity on LinkedIn.

Sam’s piece is an exploration of multi-generational housing inspired by the topics in the recent Oscar winning film Parasite.

Two things coincided for Sam’s idea to emerge; Sam is a cinephile and had seen and loved the film. Soon after, he read an article about the problem with the so-called ‘boomerang’ generation. Inspiration struck and Sam used both concepts to comment on architecture.

In his writing Sam likes to explore culture and the integration of ideas beyond architecture from different mediums to inform his architectural practice.

Sam will continue writing whilst working in practice, bringing fresh ideas and connections through the inter-disciplinary nature of architecture.
