Tomas Millar, of Millar Howard Workshop, is asking practices in the south west to share ideas or case studies of innovations that have improved the way their practice works.
Whether you have a big idea or a small tip or trick, Tomas is encouraging practices to share their ideas in the format of a PechaKucha, and upload their presentation to YouTube. The best videos will then be selected to feature in a future regional newsletter, and encourage better sharing of innovation across the south west.
Tomas says: “Practices across the region are innovating in all sorts of exciting ways, and we want to celebrate these and learn from each other.”
He was inspired to share ideas after taking part in the Guerrilla Tactics 2017 PechaKucha event. This video of the event includes 10 example talks of how small practices across the nation are innovating in the way they work. Some of these are technical innovations while others are more socially focused.
“What I liked about this event was seeing all the different ideas that people are putting into practice,” says Tomas. “It prompted me to think differently about how we pitch for work and what we deliver as architects.”
If you're interested in sharing your ideas, we invite you to record a PechaKucha (20 slides of 20 seconds each) and upload it to YouTube, using the hashtag #RIBASWpechakucha.
Recording your presentation is simple. You can either choose the form of a screencast with a voice over (OBS is a good piece of open source software for doing this), or you could video yourself delivering a live presentation.
It's natural to feel self-conscious doing this, but watching other people's presentations - no matter how simple their idea -is really inspiring. Your presentation doesn’t need to be long or particularly polished either - we're more interested in hearing your ideas.
Please upload your video by Wednesday 12 February, to be in with a chance of featuring in a future newsletter. Contact us via email if you have any questions.
