RIBA CEO, Alan Vallance, said:
“The proposals put forward by the Government today lack vital details needed to determine the future of the UK’s global architecture sector.
While plans to scrap the skilled workers cap and abolish the resident labour market test are welcome; we need urgent clarity on how the points-based system will actually work for architects.
A huge number of questions remain unanswered. We don’t yet know whether Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications will be part of the EU trade deal; how the ‘tradeable’ points system would work for occupations with higher salary thresholds; whether architects will remain on the Shortage Occupation List or the cost and length of the application process – the profession remains in the dark.
The RIBA will continue to work with the Government to shape a post-Brexit system that works for our profession.”
