Student Support Fund

The RIBA has also opened the Student Support Fund for its autumn 2020 round of applications, which helps Part 1 or Part 2 students experiencing financial hardship to apply for grants of up to £3,000.

RIBA President, Alan Jones, said:

“Scholarships and bursaries are a vital part of our support for students and play an important role in creating opportunities for all - even more so at this challenging time. In 2019-2020 the RIBA’s Student Support Fund helped more students than ever before, with £114, 180 going to those who need it most. We are very grateful for the ongoing generosity of all our donors, who we depend on to make these grants and bursaries possible.”

  3. RIBA Part 1 and Part 2 Bursaries support students of architecture with £6,000 throughout two years of study; the second and third years of a Part 1, and the full two years of a Part 2. The schemes have been made possible by donations to the RIBA from the Walter Parker Trust, the Rosenberg Memorial Fund, the Ayyub Malik Trust, the Goldfinger family as well as donations received through the RIBA Education Fund. The RIBA Part 1 Bursaries were launched in 2018, and support talented students enrolled in Part 1 courses who would benefit from financial assistance in order to complete this stage of study. The RIBA Part 2 Bursaries were instigated in 2014, to address student dropout rates by encouraging Part 1 graduates to continue onto their Part 2 courses and progress towards qualification. The RIBA depends on the generosity of its donors to fund these bursaries and continues to actively seek further funding to enable it to continue to offer support to students.
  4. The RIBA Student Support Fund assists students of architecture enrolled in RIBA Part 1 and 2 courses in the UK who are experiencing financial hardship. Since 1997 the RIBA Student Support Fund has assisted hundreds of students and the fund is solely dependent on charitable donations from RIBA members and supporters. The RIBA would particularly like to thank the Rosenberg Memorial Fund, the Shanta Foundation, the family of John and David Hubert, Assael Architecture and the Charles Peel Charitable Trust for their generous support.
