The Royal Institute of British Architects is making plans to launch the RIBA China Chapter. This will be the organisation’s sixth International Chapter, alongside Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the Gulf and USA.
RIBA International Chapters are member-led groups that represent a community of local architects.
The launch of RIBA China is part of the institute’s global expansion and outreach programme, which saw the RIBA open its first international offices in Shanghai and Sharjah in December 2019.
The RIBA recognises the importance of building networks and influence in China and is committed to sharing international knowledge and connections to benefit RIBA members globally.
Azlina Bulmer, RIBA Director of International, says:
“Working with our office in the region, the RIBA China Chapter will be delivering an exciting and varied programme of events and initiatives to inform, connect and engage with the local architecture community. Through building visits, talks, learning programmes and exhibitions, the RIBA will promote design excellence and the positive contribution that architects make to society in China.”
RIBA CEO Alan Vallance says:
“We are delighted to launch the RIBA China Chapter. As a global professional membership body with over 47,000 members in 115 countries, we recognise the importance of creating support networks and opportunities for knowledge sharing. Now, more than ever, global connections and collaborations are vital, and we look forward to drawing on and sharing the expertise of our new network in China, and working closely with our fellow professional institutes across the region.”
The RIBA will, from next week, be calling for nominations to the RIBA China Chapter committee: Chair, Vice Chair, Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary. Committee members will be elected for a term of office of up to two years. For more details contact riba.international@riba.org
