RIBA East Midlands proposes Small and Emerging Practice Network

Responding to an increase in smaller practices and sole practitioners, RIBA East Midlands is proposing a new knowledge sharing network for smaller, new and emerging practices.

01 September 2020

RIBA East Midlands is proposing a new knowledge sharing network for smaller, new and emerging practices. Responding to an increase in smaller practices and sole practitioners, this new network would provide a peer-to-peer forum for sharing experiences and discussing topics around running a business, new trends, diversification, collaboration across practices, and a place to present projects and designs.

Inspired by similar groups recently set up in RIBA East and RIBA South West, the network would initially use digital platforms, increasing access for practices across the region from South Northamptonshire to the Lincolnshire coast and High Peak in Derbyshire.

The network might provide a place to share knowledge and insights on:

  • practice management
  • marketing
  • contracts and fees
  • opportunities to collaborate
  • climate initiatives
  • new projects and planning permissions
  • specific CPD topics

The network would also be able to make use of the research, support tools and toolkits being produced by the RIBA with relevant material and expert speakers.

Set up as an agile network, the group would be facilitated by the regional RIBA team using its digital platforms and will provide an opportunity for a member steering group and/or chair to curate themes and speaker choices.

Though initially built around creating an East Midlands community, the group may eventually be able to connect with other regional groups around the UK.

If you are interested in being connected through this new knowledge sharing network for smaller, new and emerging practices, or are interested in taking a leading role, please complete our form.
