House of Architecture – help us shape a more accessible, welcoming and inclusive RIBA

Register your interest to join our House of Architecture access and inclusivity panel to help shape RIBA's exciting new programme.

25 April 2024

We are in the process of developing House of Architecture – a major programme of investment that aims to transform our member offer and widen access to architecture.

As part of this, we are creating an access and inclusivity panel to ensure that the improvements House of Architecture delivers contribute to making RIBA more inclusive, welcoming and accessible for all.

The panel will meet with the RIBA teams leading the work and share their thoughts and experiences with us to inform the plans.

What would being on the panel involve?

The panel will consist of 10 to 12 people who will attend an initial three workshops over the next six months relating to the development of the proposals to create a more welcoming physical environment at 66 Portland Place and our significant redesign of how we interact with people online.

The workshops will be offered as hybrid or online-only sessions – with opportunities to join from wherever you are – and any adjustments needed will be accommodated to ensure that the sessions as accessible as possible for all of our panel members.

The full House of Architecture programme includes investment in:

Our collections: Bringing together and sharing our unique body of architectural knowledge and history more widely than ever before.

Our digital technology: Creating a vastly improved online experience – widening our reach and expanding our audiences, across the UK and globally.

Our headquarters: Making long overdue and urgently needed upgrades to our London Headquarters to make it more accessible, sustainable and welcoming.

Workshop information

Our first workshop will be on 10 June 2024 from noon to 1:30pm.

The workshops will be no longer than 90 minutes and will involve a short presentation before the panel are asked to consider a series of questions, individually and as part of breakout groups.

Who can get involved?

The House of Architecture programme aims to improve accessibility and inclusion across RIBA - including at our 66 Portland Place London headquarters and for our online platforms and services To this end, we would like to involve people in groups that are often under-represented in buildings and digital programmes - particularly those with a disability. We also know there are many other reasons why people may feel marginalized in these settings so we want to hear from as diverse a group as possible as we develop our proposals.
