RIBA reacts to Climate Change Committee progress report

We've responded to the Climate Change Committee 2022 progress report.

30 June 2022

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has responded to the Climate Change Committee (CCC) 2022 progress report.

RIBA President, Simon Allford, said:

“This report provides another stark reminder of the Government’s need to address energy efficiency. It’s been three years since the Government declared a climate emergency, and we’re still waiting for a comprehensive programme to drive forward critical improvements to our buildings – improvements that would not only address climate change, but the cost-of-living crisis and the levelling-up agenda.

Without a National Retrofit Strategy, with credible policies to incentivise homeowners to insulate their homes, we will not limit the devastating effects of climate change or ease the financial burden on households up and down the country.

We will continue to lobby, and work with the Government to push forward practical policies that will lead the built environment towards net zero.”
