RIBA responds to CCC report

Read our response to the Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) latest report, which sets out the UK Government’s progress to date in reducing emissions.

24 July 2024

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has responded to the Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) latest report, published on Thursday 18 July 2024, which sets out the UK Government’s progress to date in reducing emissions.

RIBA President Muyiwa Oki said:

"This report makes clear the sluggish installation of energy efficiency measures.

With millions of leaky, inefficient homes in need of upgrades, we urgently need a well-funded, long term National Retrofit Strategy to drive meaningful change.

It’s also vital that new buildings are sustainable from the outset. That’s why we’re supporting the development of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard – a single methodology to ensure built assets can be robustly defined as net zero carbon emissions.

We will continue to support the Government as it works towards its net zero commitments.”
