The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has responded to the Government’s plan to give 14 councils across England £50,000 take part in a testing programme to apply and develop the National Model Design Code – see here.
RIBA President, Alan Jones, said:
“I am encouraged by testing the development of local design codes. These pilots will be critical to how the National Model Design Code works, allowing for a real-world understanding of how architects can work with local authorities to deliver places and spaces for society. In order to deliver quality and sustainable design outcomes, architects, planners and investors must collaborate with communities; these pilot programmes will provide an opportunity to go beyond copy book style guides and examine how these codes and relationships can work best.”
