Following the publication of proposed mandatory competence requirements, we've launched a pilot test to assess understanding of Health and Life Safety.

Dieter Bentley-Gockmann is the author of the RIBA’s new handbook for embedding health and safety in design. He explains how it provides essential information that will support members in the future mandatory competency test.

Having served on the Bedfordshire Association of Architects committee for several years, architect and founder of Benchmark Architects, Mark Doohan has now taken over as Chair from Graham Stewart.

“It was great to feel the enthusiasm of mentors and students that were taking part in the RIBA Future Architects mentoring programme”, said Gavin Richards, Head of School at Nottingham Trent University during our first virtual welcome meeting in November. Our 2020/21 programme was like no other due to the pandemic, with all mentoring online.

The RIBA has today opened applications for five RIBA Wren Insurance Association Scholarships, worth £30,000.

Every month, RIBA East showcases a deserving practice based in the East of England. Our May 2021 Practice of the Month is Atelier Architecture & Design in Hertfordshire. Steve Melvin, practice principal told us: “I lead my life and design profession attuned and inspired by nature. Whether it’s climbing a remote frozen waterfall, or designing a rural retreat, I believe in engaging nature’s forces and helping others attune life to nature and their space.”
