The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) serves our members and society in order to deliver better buildings and places, stronger communities and a sustainable environment. Good engagement is the linchpin to creating the best outcomes.
RIBA, with generous support of the Association of Collaborative Design (ACD) and Sustrans, and supported by the Landscape Institute, is proud to have created the Engagement Overlay to the 2020 RIBA Plan of Work.
This overlay is a truly collaborative piece of work, with contributions from over 30 different organisations, offering insight and best practice into successful engagement. It is therefore well placed as a resource for all built and natural environment professionals. We are confident this will become a valuable industry resource to support better project engagement outcomes for everyone involved in the procurement, design, delivery, management, maintenance and use of the built and natural environment.
The main objective of the Engagement Overlay is to provide a standardised approach and baseline for architects and other built environment professionals to enhance the quality of engagement with all stakeholders and to create capacity for public participation beyond traditional methods of solely informing and consulting. It aims to provide the mechanisms and structure for facilitating early, effective and proportionate engagement throughout all work stages while adhering to the existing RIBA Plan of Work framework.
