Active Buildings support the energy network, by intelligently integrating renewable energy technologies for heat, power and transport.
The Active Building Centre, a national centre of excellence, has recently been established in Swansea. In partnership with industry, academia and government, this centre aims to provide scalable solutions to enable the construction industry to deploy the Active Building concept.
This will help the UK government in meeting their goal to at least halve the energy use of all new buildings by 2030, and to achieve the goals set out in the UK government report, 'Construction 2025'.
During this workshop, architects will be introduced to the Active Building concept, and to the new design guide being developed to enable the design of Active Buildings. Participants are also invited to contribute knowledge to this new design guide, by taking part in a short design exercise and in feedback discussions.
The information collected in this workshop will help inform the design guide, which is being developed and validated by the speaker of the session, as part of a professional Doctorate in the Sustainable Built Environment (D.SBE).
