Becontree corner plots: A tour with nimtim architects

A behind the scenes tour led by architecture practice nimtim across the historic Becontree Estate where they are developing designs to revitalise a series of underused corner plots at road junctions.

Join architects from nimtim on this morning tour to hear about their competition-winning designs to embed new green infrastructure across the Becontree Estate.

After outlining a number of neglected corner plots at junctions across the estate, nimtim have been working with resident groups and schools to develop designs that will encourage informal play and informal gathering. Another key priority is to landscape these pockets of public space with plants and shrubs that are compatible with the former ecology of the site.

The tour will start at Valence House with a presentation by the architects on their initial research and the community engagement process through workshops and model making. We will then walk over with nimtim to visit two of the sites being developed.

About nimtim

Nimtim is a London based practice who want to make and talk about architecture in a different way. With a focus on the people and stories behind places, they create buildings that reflect the personalities and values of the communities that will live, work or play in them.

Tour guides:

  • Maia Rollo - Architectural Assistant, nimtim architects
  • Tim O’Callaghan - Director and co-founder, nimtim architects

The corner plot commission is part of the Becontree centenary, a partnership between Create London, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) and RIBA, supported by LBBD.
