RIBA International: RIBA Canada Chapter strategy meeting

RIBA are pleased to announce it’s very first international inaugural meeting in Toronto to discuss formalising a future chapter of RIBA International in Canada.

This will be the kick-off, networking meeting for RIBA members in Ontario and Canada, to discuss the formation of RIBA international as a branch in Canada, and the strategy to work towards a RIBA Canada Chapter.

This is taking place on the vibrant evening of Nuit Blanche (White Night), Toronto’s annual night celebration of everything that is modern art. Attendees are invited to a night of art, design and culture at the Ontario Historical Society, located in the John McKenzie House.

The Chapter formation meeting will also be held at the John McKenzie House exhibition, which has been curated by S’mad - Sustainable market art + design, connecting the people of Toronto city through cultural art.

Vera Kabo Tse, Design Program Manager at TCHC (Toronto Community Housing Corporation), is hosting the art and design exhibition opening, on the exciting theme of; The Present is Everything: Future to Past. Vera is the curator of the Art Exhibition and will share a short talk about the art and curatorial concept, along with the artists showcasing their work.

The John McKenzie House exhibition was curated collaboratively with WCRA (Willowdale Central Ratepayers Association - non profit org), to illustrate art in the salon/living room, of a Queen Anne revival home in North York - which serves as the home of the Ontario Historical Society.

The artwork from S'mad's platform of artists re-creates the setting of the salon work of art, with arts and craft objects contextualised into the concept of ‘home sweet home’, questioning our present use of the everyday Canadian living room art display work.

Different generations from Gen Z to the Silent Generation will unite in this exhibition gathering for Nuit Blanche, ‘The Present is Everything,’ focusing on sustainability of nature and community. People coming together in unity, from all wakes of life, is a message passed down by the Indigenous people. We are proud to give thanks to this land that belonged to the Indigenous people and the life-giving water, flora and fauna.
