RIBA are delighted to be taking part in Design China Beijing conference and exhibition forum on 14 September 2019.
Key guest speakers attending from the UK are:
- Jo Bacon, Managing Partner at Allies and Morrison & RIBA Council member
- Azlina Bulmer, Director of International RIBA
Jo Bacon ‘Projects, People and Perspectives’
Jo is a nationally elected member of the RIBA Council. She is Managing Partner of Allies and Morrison and a practicing Architect leading the delivery of some of the practice’s most complex projects, often with demanding requirements. Earlier this year, she chaired the RIBA Gender Pay Working Group and is an active supporter of the UK’s Women in Architecture.
Jo will discuss her work as an advocate for women in architecture and the value of diversity in design. Under the title ‘Projects, People and Perspectives’, Jo will share examples of her work, leading major building projects, while managing one of the largest architectural practices in the UK.
Jo will focus on the merits of inclusivity in architectural leadership roles, and how incorporating diverse perspectives in the design process enriches architectural outcomes.
Jo's successful projects include:
- 100 Bishopsgate, a 40-storey office tower in the City of London due to complete this year.
- Project leadership travelling to Shenyang to review the production of façade components.
- Heading up the Allies and Morrison team on the BBC Media Village, an award-winning scheme.
- Delivery of several projects at the University of Cambridge and diverse projects such as the new British Embassy Dublin to master plans in Regent Street and Victoria, London.
In the 1990s, Jo lived in China, lecturing at Hong Kong University and then worked in Shanghai.
