Design Time: Woven Wonders of the World (in-person workshop)

What and where are the world's most famous buildings and who are the architects who created them? Join us for this creative architecture workshop for ages 11 to 14 years.

This creative architecture workshop for children aged 11 to 14 will be run by artist educator Katie Kennedy.

About the event

What - and where - are the world's most famous buildings and who are the architects who created them? What do they look like and what inspired the architects and engineers to design and build them?

In this creative model making and weaving workshop we will explore famous buildings from around the world, spending some time learning fun facts about them and discussing the stories and ideas that helped to inspire and create them.

We will then construct our own large scale willow structures of some of the buildings and use weaving techniques and a variety of materials to interpret and construct these architectural icons.

Participants will come away from the workshop with lots of new model making techniques, new knowledge around materials, architecture, architects and architectural history that will inform and inspire their own work.

About the Workshop Series

Our Design Time (previously Design Day) workshops for ages 11 to 14 take architectural design a step further by providing context and knowledge of the built environment to spark creativity.

Past workshops have focused on:

  • different architectural styles
  • small and large-scale construction methods
  • traditional and digital drawing techniques
  • architectural games
  • using software to design collaboratively in a shared space
