Difficult Sites features projects that demonstrate how architects have often produced their finest work when confronted with a challenging site.
Join exhibition curator, Charles Hind, for an in-depth look at Difficult Sites: Architecture Against the Odds. You will hear unique stories and extra details on the tricky terrain, awkward urban plots and challenging remodels explored within the three sections of the exhibition- Reworks, Landscape and Urban Spaces:
- Reworks features solutions to sites that present challenges from existing structures, archaeological remains or industrial activity
- Landscape explores projects that not only respond to constant challenges such as unstable topography but also seasonal challenges such as flooding or excessive rainfall
- Urban Sites delves into the challenges presented by the city. Many sites are restricted by existing buildings, legal constraints, issues such as noise pollution or a combination of all
The projects featured in this exhibition demonstrate the skill, craft and creativity of the architect in meeting the requirements of the client brief and budget while working in the most difficult of conditions.
Through original drawings, photography, models, and plans we invite you to join Charles and look at how resilient and creative practitioners are in realising the inconceivable against the odds.
