The RIBA East London Architects' group would like to invite you for an evening presentation of five extraordinary residential projects, followed by a discussion on the future of housing design and delivery in London. Collectively, these proposals present an alternative to mainstream commercial housing development in East London:
- Becontree Avenue - Kyle Buchanan, Director at Archio
- Naked House - Jon Lopez, Director at OMMX
- PLACE Ltd. in Tower Hamlets - Mark Baigent, Director at PLACE Ltd.
- Roman Road Community Land Trust - Sarah Bland, Director at Studio Wic
- Salmen House - Catrina Stewart and Hugh McEwen, Directors at Office S&M
Individually, each project presents a unique design approach, using innovative methods of social engagement, challenging our conventional perceptions of dwelling, and re-imagining the process of creating meaningful places in our city. We are going to hear about alternative routes to development, including housing projects created by self-initiated community groups and commissioned by a council’s in-house development companies.
Please join us for this fascinating discussion, and learn more about community-led, council-led, imaginative refurbishment, reuse, self-build and cooperative methods of constructing new homes.
