Guerrilla Tactics 2020: Reinventing Practice

This year’s Guerrilla Tactics poses questions about the role of the architect in contemporary practice, investigates alternative business models designed to share profits and responsibilities more equitably, and emphasises the benefits of collaboration and knowledge sharing between practices, while offering practical tips and strategies for working smarter.

Guerrilla Tactics is RIBA’s annual creative business conference for small and medium sized architectural practices.

It offers a mix of inspirational conference programming around a changing theme each year, and a wide ranging CPD offer covering all ten core curriculum topics to enable practitioners to fulfil their CPD requirements.

This year’s CPD programme emphasises sustainable design and construction, health and wellbeing, and navigating remote working.

How can I attend?

Held for the first time as an online event, Guerrilla Tactics is delivered in smaller chunks over the course of a week to make it more digestible for online viewing.

We understand that no busy practitioner can take a whole week of leave, so all sessions are being recorded and will be made available exclusively for ticket holders.

CPD and conference programme tickets are available separately or as a package.

Why should I attend?

Whether you are a director of a UK or international practice seeking to learn about innovative business models or improve your operations, an architect considering to take the plunge and setting up on your own, a practitioner looking for inspiration from forward thinking creatives, or a student interested in deeper insights into the world of practice, then Guerrilla Tactics is for you.

In addition, you gain access to up to 25 hours of structured CPD for only £90 (member rate).

What is this year’s conference theme?

Curated by Creative Director Tomas Millar of Millar + Howard Workshop, this year’s Guerrilla Tactics Conference explores how to Reinvent Practice.

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives”: Annie Dillard

While the art and craft of architecture is greatly rewarding, the pressures of professional practice can impinge significantly on the work-life balance and quality of life of many architects.

The pandemic has forced us to stop in our tracks and provided an opportunity to re-assess the way we live and work. Profound change suddenly seems possible more than before. And with the economic outlook uncertain, the most agile and resourceful practices are best positioned to weather any storm.

This conference highlights opportunities for architects to broaden their reach and influence, investigates alternative business models designed to share profits and responsibilities more equitably, and explores new locations of innovation – both geographic and technological, while offering practical tips and strategies for working smarter, thereby freeing up architects time.
