Housing, social mobility, and what needs to change

Join Hashi Mohamed in conversation with Arthur Kay as they discuss social mobility, housing precariousness and much more.

Join Hashi Mohamed, a barrister specialising in planning based at London’s Landmark Chambers and an author, for a wide-ranging discussion with Arthur Kay, urban designer, entrepreneur and author, about social mobility, career paths, housing precariousness and the consequences of government decisions.

‘People Like Us: what it takes it to make it in Modern Britain’ (Profile Books, 2020)

Hashi Mohamed's powerful and often heart-breaking memoir, is a story of social mobility and inequality and a searching analysis of what needs to change. The chances that a nine-year old Somali refugee from Kenya, who arrived in Britain without his mother and was brought up in poverty and deprivation, would end up writing a book like this were extremely remote.

Softback copies of Hashi Mohamed’s books (‘People Like Us: what it Takes it to Make it in Modern Britain’ and ‘A Home of One’s Own: Why the Housing Crisis Matters’), are included in the ticket price, and will be provided to ticket holders on entry to Temple Bar.

This talk is introduced by Lucy Bullivant, Trustee, Temple Bar Trust

We would be delighted for you to join us at a networking reception with the speaker and audience members after the talk .

Please note: Temple Bar will be open for ticket holders from 6.05pm, please arrive in good time to be checked in and seated by 6.20pm.
