Join the North Yorkshire Society of Architects for a tour of the 2023 RIBA Yorkshire 2023 Regional Awards shortlisted building, Crimple Hall. Graham Boyce from ArkleBoyce will share their experience of helping the Watson family realise their aspirations in creating a new retail and food destination on the edge of Harrogate.

The vision was to provide an open-plan artisan farmers market and restaurant, which creates a distinctive, capacious space to be populated by a series of free-standing stalls selling a variety of food items, and most importantly, sitting comfortably next to the existing garden centre and in the sensitive surroundings of Crimple Valley.

The new building has a scale and materiality which relates to its semi-rural / edge of town location but most importantly, creates an identity for the building which relates to the adjacent garden centre but gives distinction and identity to the new offer, especially important to something which is roadside and needs to address a sensitive context.

The building form is driven by its highly sustainable design, with natural ventilation and north lights giving rise to the saw-tooth style form, and taking advantage of the use of renewable technologies to reduce the need for mechanical services and energy input generally.
