The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted what can happen when we do not live in harmony with our natural ecosystems.
This, together with the ever increasing awareness about climate change and all the local, national and international declarations to move towards a zero-carbon world, has reaffirmed that we have to make systemic and permanent changes to the way the construction industry operates.
Buildings make a significant contribution to global carbon emissions and architects are in a strong position to make positive changes to address this. Given the scale of the challenges, it is essential to give architects and other building professionals a clear direction on the issues but also a set of tools so that they can feel confident to take action.
Following its 2030 Climate Challenge in June 2019, the RIBA has developed progressive yet realistic ten-year targets for operational energy use, embodied carbon, potable water and health and wellbeing.
To help architects work towards achieving effective measures, the RIBA and The Green Register are offering a unique and innovative, online training course to be held in September and November. This two-part, full-day event will present an analysis of all four 2030 Climate Challenge targets from experts in the industry, together with workshops so that delegates can examine each topic in more depth.
