O’Donnell + Tuomey: More space for architecture

Join us for an in-person lecture with Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey, founders of O’Donnell + Tuomey, as they discuss some of their award-winning realised and unbuilt projects from the last seven years.

Established in 1988 O’Donnell + Tuomey is an award-winning studio-based practice, with offices in Dublin, Cork and London. Committed to the craft and culture of architecture, they have been involved with urban design, cultural, social and educational projects at home and abroad. The practice has an international reputation for its engagement with complex urban situations and sensitive landscapes.

The evening will begin with a short recital by Martin Hayes, renowned Irish fiddler. The lecture will be introduced by Eugene Downes, Cultural Director at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland. After the lecture by Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey, there will be an audience Q&A. The event will be chaired by architect Charles Holland. Afterwards there will be the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of More Space for Architecture.

More Space for Architecture, (to be published by Artifice Books in April 2022), features a selection of projects designed from 2015 to 2021, including the competition-winning V&A East and Sadler’s Wells East. A companion volume to their earlier monograph Space for Architecture, the new book will look in detail at competition-winning, under construction projects, as well as unbuilt and unpublished designs. The work also features a collection of reflective essays by O’Donnell and Tuomey, which include a selection of O’Donnell’s characteristic watercolour studies, expanding on ideas aired in public lectures and developed in studio conversations.

In celebration of its release, More Space for Architecture [RRP: £29.95] will be available to purchase at the event after the lecture at a special offer price.
