About the Day

Off the Scale: Modelling Masterclass
Saturday 20 and Saturday 27 July 2019, 10am to 5pm
For ages 18+

Join illustrator and model maker Sebastian Harding for our popular model making masterclass at the RIBA on Saturday 20th and Saturday 27th July. Learn how to create stunning and intricate 3D architectural models inspired by the buildings of Fitzrovia and the RIBA’s local area.

This 2-day course will cover all elements in the creation of architectural model making from creating a base and designing your structure, through to embellishing your creations.

As well as model making, you will get a fascinating insight into the history of the area’s architecture. On day 1, you will have a guided tour of Fitzrovia to view the eclectic building styles, which range from classical Regency mansions to striking Art Deco gems.

On day 2, you will see some of the RIBA’s world-class collections and attend a bespoke talk presented by one of our expert Curators. All of this will provide an educated perspective on urban architectural styles, informing your approach to the creative process and inspiring you to begin thinking in three dimensions.

Whether you are a designer, a student or a complete beginner, by the end of the course you will have learned how architectural models are created, and constructed your own beautiful model to take home with you as a souvenir of the day.
