RIBA East Midlands and Leicester Cathedral: A new phase in its history

Join us on 26 September for an evening of discussion, building tours, and insight into the history of Leicester Cathedral and its current process of upgrade and modernisation.

Doors open at 6.30pm, tour at 7pm

The Cathedral is undergoing an exciting project to transform the opportunities it can offer, through the reordering of the interior, upgrade of building services and a 3-storey Heritage Learning Centre extension.

This event is hosted by Leicester Cathedral - supported by RIBA East Midlands and Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects - and features a talk and building tour by vHH Architects.

An ideal event for anyone interested in history, architecture, the conservation of historic buildings, and how to reduce their energy output through careful, sensitive interventions.

About Leicester Cathedral

Leicester Cathedral is at the physical heart of our city and county. Our church, built on the site of a Roman temple and dedicated to St Martin of Tours, has been embedded in the public, economic, cultural and religious life of this community since medieval times.

Since 1927, as the seat of the Bishop of Leicester, we now gather people together for worship, celebration, lament, debate and service of the poor and vulnerable. We offer hospitality to the wider church, the communities of faith which make up our multicultural society and those who come as visitors to the East Midlands, especially in search of the story of King Richard III.

"We have found here that God’s love is liberating, transcending all the barriers that separate us and calling us to be a pilgrim people. We meet Jesus Christ afresh daily as we serve those most in physical or spiritual need. Every day we see that those who come as strangers so often leave as friends.

We are open for worship and visiting most days – I invite you to come and see and to join with us in this adventure."

- The Very Revd David Monteith, Dean of Leicester
