About the panel

Anna Thompson
Anna Thompson FRICS FCABE is a Chartered Building Control Surveyor and Chartered Building Engineer with nearly 40 years of experience in public sector building control. Previously Building Control Manager at East Devon District Council and Director of Training at LABC, Anna is LABC’s Head of Engagement. She works with local authority building control teams, partners and clients to improve understanding, competency, collaboration and standards.

Anna is a passionate advocate for exemplary Building Control, having previously been an LGA National Policy Advisor and a past RICS Building Control Professional Group member.

She is a Non-Executive Director and Vice-Chair of the National Home Improvement Council, Chair of the NHIC Consumer Voice Working Group, a member of the CLC RMI Workstream Digital Taskforce and part of the Constructing Excellence SW Leadership Council. She is a Women in Construction Ambassador.

Paul Bussey
Paul Bussey is an architect with 40 years’ experience. He has developed a technical expertise in the application of all types of building related legislation and constructional guidance. He represents AHMM Architects Technical Consulting Team providing solutions and regulatory compliance to assist project teams to meet their statutory and contractual obligations on all projects.

Paul is particularly interested in how regulations in 'all people' risk areas of architecture, including fire, safety, and health integrate with day to day project risk management.

He was involved with the HSE’s development of the CDM 2007 and 2015 regulations on behalf of the RIBA. He was a member of the HSE IICC & BS 8671 PD Committees, Chair of both the CONIAC KPWC & CIC Health & Safety Committee, DLUHC Alternative Escape Steering Group and a current member of the RIBA Fire Expert Advisory Group assisting their delivery of the previous and forthcoming Principal Designer Course.

Tony Putsman
Tony Putsman is a chartered civil engineer and qualified trainer/coach. Tony developed a keen interest in the people aspect of construction whilst working for major contractors including Taylor Woodrow, Kier International and Jarvis Construction. Since graduating in 1974, he has worked across all the major sectors of the construction Industry, moving from a project delivery role into becoming a training and development specialist. He set up his own risk management consultancy (XPS) in 2002 and has worked with clients in all sectors of the Industry as well as leading professional institutions including the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Tony is co-author of 'Practical guide to using the CDM Regulations 2015 - Teamwork not Paperwork' (ICE Publishing)

He was also lead author of the CONIAC report; 'CDM 20-20 vision - changing the culture' published by the ‘Keeping Pace with Change’ working group, of which he is a member.

He has worked collaboratively with Paul Bussey since 2014 and jointly developed the CDM Differently information hub which provides leading construction professionals with the latest guidance and practical tools to aid productive compliance.
