Following the success of the RIBA Gulf live lunch talks 2021, the RIBA has launched a second season of talks. To kick things off, please join us for the first instalment of 2022, on the last day of Expo 2020 Dubai. Tim Leigh from Stage One will discuss the heart of the expo - Adventures in the Al Wasl Dome at Expo 2020, transforming a structure into a performance venue.
The Al Wasl Plaza is a monument to ambitious architecture and construction. It forms the very heart of Expo 2020 and has become the place where the people come together to be amazed and entertained. Whilst a remarkable structure in its own right, the dome is a hub for putting on shows for the whole world to see. To help turn the elegant dome into a location worthy of world-class performances, Stage One was commissioned to integrate lifts, revolves, a flying system and other stage machinery into the venue.
The session will include:
- a presentation by Tim Leigh to describe the story of designing, manufacturing, installing, and operating the stage machinery within the Al Wasl Plaza and the transition of the Al Wasl Plaza from a complex construction site to a platform for breathtaking performances
- an interview with Tim Leigh on the successes and challenges of working in such an iconic venue hosted by Azlina Bulmer, RIBA Director of International
- an audience Q&A session
Grab your lunch and take this opportunity to interact with one of the key people in the World's Greatest Show - Expo 2020 Dubai.
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.
