RIBA Hello China Digital Talk Series: Talk 3 with Dr. Xiangning Li

RIBA Hello China is holding the third in its series of digital talks livestreamed from China, on the theme of building a new tradition. This talk will be with Dr. Xiangning Li, professor in history, theory and criticism at Tongji University and assistant dean at College of Architecture and Urban Planning - Tongji.

Join us on 12 September at 10:00 am (BST) for the third digital talk in our Hello China series. This exclusive lecture is by Dr. Xiangning Li, professor in history, theory and criticism at Tongji University and assistant dean at College of Architecture and Urban Planning - Tongji.

Professor Li will showcase contemporary Chinese architects' responses to tradition through more than twenty projects, including: Quzi Academy, Jishou Art Museum, Shou County Culture and Art Center, BingDing Wood Kiln, Cotton Lab Urban Lounge, New campus of Yan 'an University, Light of Internet Conference Center, Xiaoyue House, Terra Retreat Boutique Hotel and other architectural work of different types and sizes. A question and answer session will follow.

As a famous critic, Professor Li is a member of the International Committee of Architectural Critics and the vice president and secretary general of the Architectural Review Committee at the Architectural Society of China. Previously he was a visiting scholar at MIT and lectured in many universities and institutes, including Harvard, Princeton and UCLA.

He has also published widely on contemporary architecture and urbanism in China. Publications include: Towards a Critical Pragmatism, Contemporary Architecture in China, Local Architecture Strategies in the Context of Globalization, Made in Shanghai and more.

Professor Li was a curator of the From Research to Design exhibition in 2012 Milan Triennale, Harvard University GSD exhibition 2016, Shanghai Urban Space Art Season 2015/2017, and the curator of the China Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia 2018.

Currently the editor in chief of Architecture China, he has served on the editorial board of many academic journals such as The PLAN and Le Visiteur. As well as being invited to serve as a judge for many awards including Mies van der Rohe Award.
