As part of the centenary celebrations, Liverpool Cathedral will host a series of events honouring the architectural legacy of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, on the anniversary of Scott’s birth in November 2024.
Join Liverpool Cathedral for a discussion on some of the iconic buildings designed by Giles Gilbert Scott such as Battersea power station, recently redeveloped, and Bankside power station, now Tate Modern.
The panel of experts considers Scott’s oeuvre, and the challenges of readapting heritage buildings for new uses in the wake of the 21st century. How do architects balance the need to respect the heritage of these edifices, whilst creating designs that fit today’s needs?
Speakers include
- Wynn Chandra, Associate Studio Director, Herzog & De Meuron
- Dr David Lewis, Architectural Historian, University of Oxford
- Armstrong Yakubu, Foster+ Partners.
The panel for this event will be moderated by Iain Jackson, Professor of Architecture and Research Director at the Liverpool School of Architecture.
This event is organised in partnership with RIBA North and the Liverpool Architecture Society. Thank you to The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art for supporting this event.
Additional educational activities are planned at Liverpool Cathedral during the October half term. For more information, please visit the Liverpool Cathedral website.
