RIBA Photo Festival study day: collecting architectural photography

This RIBA Photo Festival study day offers an opportunity for discussion and debate on collecting architectural photography, the role of photography in architecture, and the future of this medium in the current digital age. Join our internationally acclaimed speakers for a topical panel discussion followed by individual presentations.

Join us for a discussion and debate on collecting architectural photography, the role of photography in architecture, and the future of this medium in the current digital age.

This study day session is part of our programming for the RIBA Photo Festival 2023.

This RIBA Photo Festival study day session will be led by an international selection of invited speakers including both prominent specialists in the field and emerging scholars.

This session will include a panel discussion on collecting architectural photography, followed by individual presentations.

Angelo Maggi - associate professor of history of photography and architectural history at Università Iuav di Venezia, Italy

Richard Pare - photographer and founding curator for the photography collection of the Canadian Centre for Architecture

Gary Van Zante - curator of architecture, design and photography collections at the MIT Museum

Additional presentation

Between the two sessions, all participants will be able to attend the presentation: Scopio editorial project: a catalyst for discussion and construction of architectural ideas, by Pedro Leão Neto, University of Porto.

This editorial project, focused on documentary and artistic photography related to architecture, has produced a remarkable series of publications in magazine and book format, as well as an online photographic archive. Please email photo@riba.org to register for this presentation.
