About the speaker

David Pope acts as a consultant on leading conservation projects and is currently the historic brickwork consultant for the Crystal Palace Subway Restoration project.

David’s other passion is the transfer of skills and knowledge between experienced practitioners and emerging conservators. He is currently a part-time PhD research student at University College London, looking at knowledge acquisition within the field of historic brick pointing.

Through this talk, David will discuss how and when to repair historic brickwork by identifying the key elements of a successful repair. He will also share his knowledge on deterioration processes, repair philosophies, brick replacement, repointing and the protection of historic brickwork.
