About RIBA Regional Awards

Judged and presented locally, RIBA Regional Awards celebrate excellence in architecture across the UK.

Successful projects reflect changes and innovations in architecture, but at their core display a commitment to designing and developing buildings and spaces for the improvement and enhancement of people’s lives.

About The Paintworks

Originally dating back to 1850 Phoenix Wharf, as it was known, was a paint and varnish factory built by Bristol Paintmakers, Colthurst & Harding.

In later years it fell into disrepair and became derelict, until a new scheme was imagined to regenerate the complex into a mixed use district centred primarily on a sense of community and in so doing provide a model for others to build on elsewhere.

Paintworks has always actively sought to foster positive relationships with the arts and creative communities. From public art installations and opera performances, to filming and photography locations. Some will also know it as a former centre for RIBA in the South West.
