RIBA Suffolk building tour of Ely Museum

Join RIBA Suffolk for a wonderful guided building tour of Ely Museum with Elie Hughes.

RIBA Suffolk are pleased to invite you to a building visit of Ely Museum, winners of RIBA East Award 2022 and RIBA East Conservation Award 2022. We will be exploring the heritage of Ely, the development of the town and the surrounding fens.

A guided tour will be led by the curator of the museum, Elie Hughes.

About the museum

The origins of Ely Museum can be traced back to 1849. In 1997 the museum moved into the Old Gaol where a ground floor extension and new galleries were built throughout.

Local archivist and historian, Mike Petty MBE with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, supported a £2.2m redevelopment of the exhibitions, building and museum. Which also included a second-floor extension and restoration of many historic features.
